Batman Begins codes and conventions

Batman Codes & Conventions

Image result for batman begins
Batman Begins has a lot of typical superhero codes and conventions, such as an origin story. This tells you all about Bruce's past life and what made him want to go into a life of fighting crime. In this case his parents were killed so he wanted to fight to take his mind off it,

This scene here is where Bruce's parents have been killed in a failed attempt of robbery, this shows the type of tone/mood we are going to experience throughout the film. Throughout the whole film the setting is set in a dark and serious mood.
In mostly every superhero film that has been made is a villain, now this villain is usually very hard to defeat as it wouldn't be a good movie if the villain was easy to kill. This villain usually wants to take over the city (Gotham) or the world, in order to save the world the hero must risk his own life for the people of the city and usually succeed in doing so. The villain in Batman is The Scarecrow.
In a lot of modern day superhero films there is now a false hero. A false hero is someone who pretends to be the hero's friend but then goes on to help the villain or become the villain. In Batman the false hero is Ra's Al Ghul who pretends to help Batman and Batman then saves his life but in return he tries to destroy all of Gotham.

Spider-Man features

Spider-Man Features

In Spider-Man, Marvel uses a lot of creative techniques. For example Marvel use an establishing camera shot to show the setting of where the scene is taking place, they also create a hybrid of the superhero movie and action movie genre as it has a superhero in it but also has a lot of fight scenes and shooting in it. It also contains a lot of non-diegetic and diegetic sounds, for example there are  a lot of guns firing which you see so that would be classed as diegetic but there are also many non-diegetic sounds like the background music which is non-diegetic. The setting is also a big feature in spider-man because if it were set in small village it wouldn't have the same effect as he wouldn't be able to swing from building to building with his web... But in a city he can.

Marvel and Dc Comics

Marvel And Dc

                                               Marvel

Image result for marvel logoMarvel Worldwide Inc.. commonly referred to as Marvel Comics and formerly Marvel Publishing, Inc.. and Marvel Comics Group, is an American publisher of comic books and related media. In 2009, the Walt Disney company acquired Marvel entertainment, Marvel Worldwide's parent company. Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Wolverine, iron man, Captain America, Spider man and the Hulk, such teams as the avengers, the fantastic four, the X-men , and antagonists such as Magneto, Mystique, Green goblin, Doctor doom, Dr octopus  and Loki. Most of Marvel's fictional characters operate in a single reality known as the Marvel universe, with locations that mirror real-life cities.

DC

DC Comics, Inc. is an America comic book publisher. It is the publishing unit of DC Entertainment, a company of Warner bros Entertainment, which itself is owned by time Warner. DC Comics is one of the largest and most successful companies operating in American comic books, and produces material featuring numerous well-known heroic characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman , green lantern, the Flash, Aqua Man , hawk man and Green arrow. It was founded in late 1934 or early 1935 by Malcolm wheeler Nicholson. DC's first logo appeared on the April 1940 issues of its titles. The letters "DC" stood for Detective Comics, the name of Batman's flagship title. The small logo, with no background, read simply, "A DC Publication".  The initials "DC" came from the company's popular series Detective comics, which featured Batman's debut and subsequently became part of the company's name

Difference between the two.

The difference between Marvel and DC is that the Marvel comics are set in real life places  such as spider man is set in New York whereas DC comics are set in fictional places e.g. Batman takes place in fictional Gotham. Another difference is that Marvel make more money than Dc as Marvel is partnered with Disney meaning they can make alot more money through merchandise and it has also made a lot more money in the box office than Dc you can check this through www.the-numbers.com

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

                              Diegetic and Non-Diegetic

Diegetic- Sound comes from a source within the scene- dialogue, actors, or even music from a radio.

Non-Diegetic- Added to the soundtrack to heighten impact or create an emotional response.

  • At the very start of the trailer a piano can be heard, since you cant see the piano in the scene this would be Non-Diegetic sound, the piano sound creates a mysterious effect, linking in with the strange masked creature we see at the start.
  • Around about 1 minute 10 seconds in we can see a fight between aircraft's going on in the sky as hear explosions going off, this is known as Diegetic sound as we can clearly see where the source of the noise is coming from, this lets the viewer know exactly what is happening within the scene.
  • Near the end of the trailer we can hear the Star Wars tune, this is also Non-Diegetic which is added in so the viewers know what the trailer is for and for them to remember this is the star wars theme tune. This not only helps people recognize it but it also sticks in people's minds and the next time they hear it, will know it is Star Wars based.

Mise En Scene

Mise en scene

You can see in this scene that Scott and Ramona are in love, you can tell by the positioning of the two character and their facial expression as they are both happy, the camera is just focusing on them because the whole of the background is blurred to make you focus on the two characters.

In this scene you can tell that by Scott's facial expressions is is surprised at something and the movie make you focus on his expressions and think something must be important as the background is blurred out almost as if he can only focus at the one thing he is looking and nothing else matters.

in this scene you can tell the movie wants you to focus on Ramona as the lighting is on her and the two people behind her and blurred out and darker than her, so it makes it seem as like the lights up the room with just her presence.

Movie Camera Angles

This next camera angle is called a close up, it is when you can see a character from the shoulders up, it usually happens when a tense situation is happening or when a decision needs to be made, this gives the viewer a sort of on edge feeling wondering what the character is about to say next.

This camera angle is an extreme long short or otherwise called an establishing shot it establishes the setting so the viewer knows where it is set or what time it was set like Spring, Winter or Autumn, it provides an effect of the setting being huge because you can see where everything is and what everything is so the viewer knows what's happening.

This angle is called a low- angle shot, this is when the camera is placed below the character to make the character seem bigger, this gives an effect of making the character look bigger to show that they are heroic or more important than the other people in the shot.

This angle is called a two shot, it is a shot with two people in, it mostly happens when two characters are talking or when the film or show is focusing on the two people, it shows the viewer that there is a dialogue about to happen or something is about to happen involving them two characters.

This last angle is called an over the shoulder shot, it is when a camera is placed over a characters shoulder and looks at another character or a setting, it gives a sort of feeling you are in the movie and looking over the persons shoulder sort of like a POV shot.
